Open Access Policy for Colonoscopy
For patients who have reasons for endoscopy, are extremely healthy and do not have significant gastrointestinal symptoms, Alpine Gastroenterology allows the option for Open Access Endoscopy (OAE).
OAE allows patients to be scheduled for endoscopy procedures without prior consultation in our clinic. This option is most commonly used prior to colonoscopy procedures for colon cancer screening. To qualify for OAE, patients medical records must be reviewed by one of our board-certified gastroenterologists.
Patients with significant gastrointestinal symptoms (such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, bleeding or trouble swallowing) or pre-existing medical problems (such as heart failure, COPD, sleep apnea, diabetes or significant obesity) do not qualify for OAE.
If you feel that your patient is symptom free and very healthy, you may suggest he or she for this option.
